A blog on my learning journeys as I pursue my studies.

Friday 17 February

Wow the week has gone fast. I have worked really hard on my first assignment for the research paper and have almost cracked it. I am having so much trouble trying to understand the terms used in statistical tables. I'm off to our local library to get a book to help. I logged on the the Auckland University library but the only suitable book was out and had 3 requests on it.
I am off to see Maraetai School about the way we will do the blog site on Monday next week. I am going to work with a Teacher Aide who has the "reluctant" writers. I'm about to phone Wakaaranga school and my old school to have a chat and invite them to join too. My sister (in Melbourne) has her children ready to go so once my husband perfects the site we will be in action.
I have the site on Blackboard available to look at and later one of the very kind teachers there will show me how to archive last years and set up for this year. I'm not sure if I will use Blackboard as I would like the bloggers to have more control over the content and be able to put uptheir own photos etc. However Blackboard is reliable and very secure.
I need to determine how many students would be suitable for the site as it is important that they become a community of learners and know and trust each other. I had 10 last year.
I am also wondering what effect distance has on the bloggers.... would those in a school who know each other feel more empowered? or would the converse happen and they feel the others might give them a hardtime if they wrote something"stupid". Would not physically knowing the other students empower the
student and encourage them to write things they might no normally do?
This could become part of the blog research.
Other things to consider are how I word my question. That is going round and round my head.
Is my present question enough???
"Does writing on a blog motivate and enthuse reluctant writers to write?"
If I want to find out about distance I will have to think carefully.
Well enough about blogging.
I'm having a break and am off to lunch with my daughter. I'm looking forward to giving the brain a rest.
Ka kite anau,
Pamela
